HOW THE WORK UNFOLDS
THE BEACON EFFECT™
My work with leaders under pressure has led to a practical framework: the BEACON Effect™.
It centers on six capacities that help leaders stay more available to themselves, other people, and reality when pressure rises.Â
BALANCE · ENGAGE · ADAPT · COMMUNE · ORIENT · NAVIGATE
This is not a formula for perfect leadership.
It is a way of protecting access to your own capacity.
Because under pressure:
Composure preserves capacity.
Capacity makes clarity possible.
Clarity preserves choice.
YOUR PRESENCE IS PART OF THE SYSTEM
Senior leaders sometimes underestimate how closely people are watching them.
A short answer becomes a signal.
A facial expression becomes a signal.
Silence becomes a signal.
Urgency becomes a signal.
Certainty becomes a signal.
Your nervous system enters the room before your strategy.
And other nervous systems respond.
That means leadership under pressure is not only about managing yourself.
It is about understanding what your presence makes possible—or impossible—in everyone around you.
Your composure creates their clarity.
Your resonance creates their confidence.
This is where leadership stops being purely personal.
It becomes organizational.

WHY I DO THIS WORK
I have spent much of my adult life around pressure.
As an operator.
As an executive.
As a coach.
As a father.
As a human being who has not always handled pressure as well as I wanted to.
My own career took me from barista to chief executive in less than a decade and eventually into responsibility for a $500 million business.
I have led through growth, transformation, integration, conflict, ambiguity, and organizational change.
And I have spent years coaching senior leaders from organizations including Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Dell, Starbucks, GSK, Novo Nordisk, BP, and others.
Across all of it, one lesson keeps returning:
Highly capable people do not usually struggle because they lack intelligence.
They struggle because pressure changes what they can access.
I know that from the inside.
That is why this work matters to me.
I am not interested in helping leaders perform composure.
I want to help them build enough capacity that they can remain human, truthful, discerning, and effective when the moment gets difficult.
